Asus inadvertently leaks new AMD processor naming system

An earlier leak from Asus highlighted a series of new laptops that would launch with AMD’s upcoming laptop processors, known under the code name Strix Point. These included popular laptops such as the TUF Gaming A14/A16, ROG Zephyrus G16, and Creator ProArt SKUs.

On the other hand, it did not present the new Vivobook S16 OLED which was spotted on the Asus website (archived version) by user https://twitter.com/harukaze5719/status/1787781189249692025 Unlike previous information, this one reveals AMD’s new naming system for Strix Point processors.

AMD’s new high-end processor will be called Ryzen AI 9 HX 170, at least the high-end one. Lower-end SKUs are likely to follow the same path. This new name completely undermines AMD’s processor naming system, launched only two years ago. Strix Halo The processor in question is not the “Strix Halo”, because it only contains 12 processor cores at instead of 16.

It remains to be seen what the exact name of the most sophisticated model will be (Ryzen AI 9 HX 190, perhaps). The listing also reveals that the Ryzen AI HX 170 will be equipped with a 45 TOPS NPU and an unspecified Radeon iGPU (RDNA 3.5).
