Dragonflight patch 10.2.7 is deployed in Europe and you can now discover the quests related to Xal’atath. This is the beginning of The War Within with details on the motivations of the messenger and the intervention of Alleria Windrunner.

1. Quests and story
The quest “The Messenger” is automatically launched when you enter the game. You must go to Dalaran, in the Broken Isles, to speak to Khadgar. The latter invites Alleria to investigate the radiant song and especially this famous messenger.
Since we’re talking about the Void, Allera believes that the Void Elves must know something about it. So she sends you to Telogrus. On site, Magister Umbric invites you to listen to the reports of the riftwalkers. Most of the latter saw nothing in particular, but the last one is missing. He was last seen at Galakrond’s Rest in Northrend and we must therefore go there.
It is in the Dragonblight thatIridikron bestowed his power on the Dark Heart. However, that was a long time ago and it is surprising that there is still Void activity in these places. For your part, your mission will be to eliminate shadows that appear here and there. Alleria learns there that the riftwalkers have reported fluctuations in Void energy, so she wonders if the dark heart would not absorb magical energy before converting it into shadow.
Alas, the rift step is not located here, but several traces lead north, towards Ulduar. On site, you discover that the fault step Nilara has turned against you and now serves the Void. For what ? We don’t know yet, but the messenger must have played a role. Unfortunately, for the moment there are no other solutions than to confront it and put it out of harm’s way.
Once Nilara is eliminated, the messenger invites you to join her at the Triad Conservatorium, at Eredath. There is no doubt that it is a trap but you have no choice but to go there.
This is where the most complicated part of the quest line comes. You have to witness three memories and confront three others. To witness a memory, you simply click on an NPC. On the other hand, the confrontation consists of killing monsters. In itself, there is nothing complicated about it. But it becomes so when you have dozens of players standing there and wanting to kill them at the same time as you. Impossible to target mobs quickly, you have to go AoE and hope that you receive the kill. I advise you to group up with other players to increase your chances to validate the confrontations.
Once the memories have been observed/faced, there is one final memory left to discover: Turalyon. The messenger thus uses Alleria’s former companion to make her suffer, especially since Turalyon appears telling Alleria that since she has renounced the Light, she is now her enemy.
Back to Telogrus. The messenger has launched an attack on the area and the invaders must be repulsed at all costs. The final battle pits you against Turalyon himself, or at least his corrupted memory. Once the latter has been eliminated, Alleria invites you to speak to the shadow strider, who has understood that the messenger is none other than Xal’atath. You will then be able to watch the following cutscene.
2. Rewards
In addition to the gold and Flight stones that you will obtain throughout the quests, several rewards await you: the Alleria bow, cosmetic weapons, a drake watch manuscript and an achievement.
