RTL Infos – “Brokewell”: Beware of this formidable virus on Android smartphones

Warning: if a message tells you to update your Chrome browser on your smartphone, beware, it may be a dangerous virus.

Her name is Brokewell and this malware is currently causing misfortune among owners of a Android smartphone. Specializing in cybersecurity, the ThreatFabric group warns of this program which succeeds in deceiving Internet users via a false announcement of a Chrome browser update.

The problem is that once installed, Brokewell turns out to be formidable. Like a good Trojan horse, it manages to capture and send private and sensitive information to hackers.

According to ThreatFabric, the malware can, for example, reproduce application login screens present on the phone, to steal identifiers and passwords. This particularly concerns banks.

By accidentally downloading this malware, the main risk is therefore the data theft. In addition to logins and passwords, it would be able to recover call logs but also locate the device and even record audio data remotely using the device’s microphone.

In any case, to update Chrome or any application, go to Google Play, and nowhere else. Also remember to activate Play Protect analysis on your device.
