The Samsung Art Store welcomes a dozen major works by Jean-Michel Basquiat – Samsung Newsroom France

In partnership with Artestar and The Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Samsung launches the first digital collection of works by artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, designed specifically for display on The Frame televisions.

The Samsung Art Store[1], in collaboration with Artestar and The Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat, now offers 12 major works by Jean-Michel Basquiat. These iconic pieces are presented for the first time in a digital collection and join the wide selection of works of art from museums, collections and internationally renowned artists already available on The Samsung Art Store.

The Samsung Art Store is a service that allows The Frame owners to transform any space with a selection of over 2,500 pieces of digital art, including works by the most renowned artists and trendsetters It includes a monthly subscription at €4.99 or an annual subscription at €49.99.

Jean-Michel Basquiat shone through his artistic innovation and his keen outlook on society, his work being exhibited in both galleries and museums around the world and inspiring passionate debates around cultural complexities. The new collection features unique pieces from across Basquiat’s career. Among the works available to Art Store subscribers are Bird on Money (1982), a superb tribute to Charlie Parker. There we also find Boy and Dog in a Johnnypump (1982), King Zulu (1986), which features a large block of blue color in the artist’s most refined style, and a double portrait with Andy Warhol, Dos Cabezas (1982), which, like several of Basquiat’s works, draws inspiration from his Puerto Rican heritage.

This selection of works has been specifically developed for the Art Store, adapted to the 16×9 format and chosen based on its ability to be accurately reproduced on The Frame televisions, respecting Basquiat’s legacy.

Jean-Michel Basquiat established himself as one of the most important artists of the 20th century, exploring rich themes related to heritage, identity and the human experience through his works. Beginning his career as a graffiti artist in New York under the pseudonym SAMO, Basquiat later took his art to the canvas to express his unique blend of symbolic, abstract and figurative styles. His art, characterized by intense colors, dynamic figures and enigmatic texts, addresses subjects such as society’s power structures, racial inequality and the quest for identity. Basquiat’s impact was monumental, leaving a lasting impact in the art world that explored social issues through his interest in pop culture and his own deeply refined neo-expressionist style.

Since its creation in 2019, the Art Store has provided access to international works of art from the most prestigious museums and the most important artists. The addition of the Basquiat collection strengthens the diversity of contemporary American artists present in the Art Store.

Along with these new works by Basquiat, viewers can explore thousands of additional artworks from artists such as Dalí and Van Gogh in the Art Store and view them on The Frame. Other paintings from major global institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Tate Collection, the National Palace Museum in Taiwan, the Prado Museum in Madrid and the Belvedere Museum in Vienna are also available.

The new 2024 The Frame range is available for pre-order and offers a true art gallery experience with Pantone approved colors for even more realistic reproduction of artwork[2]. In addition, it integrates the new Art Store – Streams, offering a free monthly selection of artworks from the Samsung Art Store.
