What they did not mention is that this arrest was made possible following the loss of the thief’s cell phone. For the record, know that the car had been spotted at a gas station in the region. Certainly surprised by the presence of this car, the police officers wanted to check it. But things did not go as these police officers probably thought since the driver of the Ferrari, seeing the check coming, decided to take off with a bang! Bad luck for the boy, in the rush, he dropped his phone out of the vehicle. Thanks to the latter, the police were able to geolocate Dion Schotten’s AirPods, which he had on him at all times.

Rising phenomenon

By tracing the young thief, the police were able to obtain an arrest warrant leading to his capture as well as that of another suspect, Keon Webster, another 19-year-old. When they were arrested, they not only found the famous Ferrari 812 but also an Acura TLX, worth $50,000. The evolution of the means made available to Justice and its representatives, but also, sometimes, luck, has therefore made it possible to reduce the number of cars stolen in the United States from 1.6 million units in 1992 to 930,000 in 2022. For comparison, in Europe, it is estimated an increase in thefts of 7% over the period 2013/2023 with more than one and a half million vehicles stolen.
