After the appearance of various rumors and photos, the Google Pixel 9a continues to make headlines through new images revealed by the French leaker OnLeaks. This accessible model, expected for spring 2025, could indeed feature a design that completely breaks with the brand’s usual aesthetic.
The risk of alienating fans
Unlike its predecessors, the Pixel 9a would abandon the famous horizontal photo block which had made the latest Pixel smartphones unique. Probably in order to distinguish itself from high-end models, the cheap version of the Pixel 9 would adopt a more refined look, with two photo modules discreetly integrated into the back of the device, barely protruding from the hull. A minimalist approach that could cool aficionados and, on the contrary, attract users looking for a sober terminal.

Despite this aesthetic evolution, the Pixel 9a seems to retain particularly visible screen borders, a point that some might consider lagging behind the competition in this price category. However, for a smartphone expected to cost less than €550, these concessions remain acceptable, especially given the promised performance.
A technical sheet faithful to its reputation
The Pixel 9a should be equipped with the new Tensor G4 chip, the same as in the other models of the Pixel 9 series, to accommodate the AI and image processing functions of the Californian giant, renowned for delivering excellent photophones. This powerful processor would be accompanied by 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, as well as a more generous battery than that of the Pixel 8a, which had a capacity of 4492 mAh. As for the screen, it would benefit from a diagonal of 6.1 inches and increased brightness.
More interesting software monitoring
The Pixel 9a would further be one of the first smartphones to launch with Android 15 out of the box, providing users with Google’s latest software innovations. But the real good news is how long software support lasts. Google now promises seven years of major updates and security patches, an unprecedented commitment in this price segment, thus guaranteeing exceptional longevity for this smartphone which would go further than its big brothers, up to Android 22.
If the Mountain View firm does not yet shake up its schedule, the Pixel 9a could be officially presented at the Google I/O conference in spring 2025. However, some rumors suggest that Google could bring forward its release to the end of 2024. A way to get ahead of Apple again and its much-desired iPhone SE 4?
