Blood reserves are low in Monaco at the start of the school year. Donations should have increased again after the summer, but the Princess Grace Hospital Center is facing a shortage. He is calling for donations.

The Principality of Monaco needs 4,500 to 5,000 blood bags each year. However, to date, it has barely 2,000.

The French blood establishment therefore helps out in a few pockets, but this system is fragile. “ In September, unfortunately, the resumption (of donations) did not take place as usual“, explains Doctor Mélanie Rinaudo-Gaujous, head of department at the Monaco blood transfusion center. The Princess Grace Hospital Center is therefore launching an appeal for donations. “ To date, nothing replaces blood« reminds the Doctor. “We need these transfusions to save people with cancer, for certain blood diseases, so the indications are very broad. No medicine can replace blood and blood transfusions.«

One blood donation = three lives saved

A blood donation lasts less than an hour. You must be at least 18 years old and weigh at least 50 kg. You can make an appointment on the Monaco Santé platform.
