If you like online multiplayer games on PS5, you will know that inviting friends to join your game is a bit complicated, especially when you meet new people. But soon everything will be much simpler. Sony has just announced the upcoming availability ofan update bringing a feature that will change everything your way of doing things.
A highly anticipated feature
No more need to make friend requests to play with people you know, or people you meet. Sabrina Meditz, who is a product director at Sony, informed us that we will be able to go through a link to join a multiplayer sessioneven without having added the other player as a friend on the PlayStation Network.
It’s a small revolution that will allow you, for example, to share your link on a Discord server or a WhatsApp group conversation, and to invite anyone who wants to play with you without having to search for them one by one on your PS5. This can save you a lot of time for one-time sessions (like one-night stands) or for massively multiplayer titles that can feature up to 8 protagonists.
A link to invite them all
To do this, nothing simpler. On PS5, simply go to the Game Base when you are in-game, and click on the social tab. An option will then appear to share a link via a QR Code. You will need to scan this QR code to obtain the invitation link which you can then send to your friends. Otherwise, you can also use the PlayStation mobile application which provides you directly with the link on the home page, below the current game.
This link is shareable on all platforms and the recipient only needs to have a PSN account (and a PlayStation Plus subscription for online games) to join your session. The update is not yet available, so it’s normal if you don’t see this feature yet. Sony has not yet revealed what date has been chosen for its deployment, but the firm promises that it will soon be accessible to all PS5 owners.
At the end of its press release, the company also confirms that other measures will arrive soon to further facilitate connections between players. However, we do not know whether this will concern multiplatform, which has been much more present in recent years, and even more so now that Sea of Thieves is available on the console.
