Bill Gates, the boss of Microsoft, wrote a long text on his personal blog in which he talks about our future and our relationship with artificial intelligence. And it announces a major revolution to come. A troubling future that raises many questions.
AI as the future “personal assistant”
No longer a simple tool, but a real intelligent communication partner, this is Bill Gates’ prediction of AI in the near future. If today, artificial intelligence is still locked away in software and other applications intended to support us in our daily tasks, it will soon be a “assistant staff”, then replacing all our applications previously used.
A centralization of AI capable of learning quickly in order to best meet our needs and preferences, and even anticipate them in order to offer the most relevant solutions adapted to our desires (a bit like algorithms do today on Instagram, TikTok, Netflix, YouTube and others).
Bill Gates’ vision of the future
It was in a recent post on his personal blog that Bill Gates delivered his vision of the future in the era of artificial intelligence. Further, we would therefore be at the dawn of an radical change in the man-machine relationship.
He warns. Within five years, “you won’t need to use different apps for different tasks. You will simply tell your device, in everyday language, what you want to do. And depending on how much information you choose to share with it, the software will be able to respond personally, because it will have a rich understanding of your life.
This would be a good thing according to him. He also adds that AI “will have a particularly significant influence in four areas: health care, education, productivity, and entertainment and shopping. This super-agent will be authorized to track your online interactions and your movements in the real world, it will develop an in-depth knowledge of the people, places and activities you engage in. He will know your personal and professional relationships, your hobbies, your preferences and your schedule.
This revolution, as Bill Gates intends it, however, raises big questions. What about the development of applications in the long term? How to manage your personal data and preserve it in the face of such technology? And what form of legislation to regulate such an agent?
Who owns the data you share with your agent, and how can you make sure it’s used appropriately? No one wants to receive advertisements related to what they told their therapist agent. Can law enforcement use your officer as evidence against you? When will your agent refuse to do something that could harm you or someone else? Who chooses the values embedded in agents, answers Bill Gates.”
So many questions left unanswered, at least for the moment. The boss of Microsoft in any case agrees to call for legislative regulation of this “super AI”.
