Android TV has a problem: it is possible to install Chrome and therefore access all the data connected to the Google account. As the operating system is available on a large number of devices, the flaw can be exploited as soon as physical access is possible. The company has fixed the situation, but many products are no longer updated.
With Android TV, Google has had great success. Its operating system, specialized in TV interfaces, has been present in the company’s accessories for years. But we also find it embedded in many devices, including the famous connected TVs.
Many manufacturers have adopted this solution, rather than developing their own platform. The pressure exerted on developers and publishers is in fact the same everywhere: as soon as two or three platforms are firmly established in the landscape, it is very difficult for others to find a place in the sun.
Adopting Android TV therefore means telling customers that they will be able to access all the applications in the Play Store. No need for the manufacturer to request that specific versions of Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime or Twitch be developed for its own platform.
Android TV also makes it easier to include in customers’ software portfolio. The majority of mobile devices work with Android, which allows you to synchronize your account, find your information, easily send a stream to the TV using Chromecast, etc. the equivalent, in short, of what Apple offers with its Apple TV, except that Android TV has been included in most televisions for years.
However, this synchronization of information can turn against users.
