Artificial intelligence will arrive in public transport in the Ile-de- region. For the moment, it is only a prototype entirely developed within the RATP, specifies France Info. But if the experiment, which will begin in mid-June for a period of three months, makes traffic and platforms more fluid, artificial intelligence could then be extended to certain metro and RER lines.

Concretely, a box equipped with a camera will be installed in the tunnel of line 14, before arriving at Châtelet station, in the north direction of the line. She will then analyze the crowds, car by car. “A first algorithm will cut the structure of the train. Doors, windows… And a second algorithm will, at the window level, count the number of silhouettes,” explains Gilles Tauzin, director of innovation for the RATP group.

This will inform passengers at the platform in real time, via a screen on the platform, to guide them as best as possible.

The attendance will be materialized by “a color code – green, orange or red –, depending on the level of attendance in each of the cars”, he continues. For people who have difficulty seeing colors, the screen will also show the number of silhouettes per car.
