This comparison should make you love the PS5 Pro

A comparative image based on the video game Hogwarts Legacy shows the real contribution of the PS5 Pro. It makes you want it.

The PlayStation 5 Pro has been attracting the interest of many gamers since its presentation exactly a week ago. Sony’s future console will be released in November at a price of €800 and will have a supercharged technical sheet to improve the rendering. The problem: the nine-minute promotion did not quite convince regarding the real contributions of the PS5 Pro. However, it must prove that it is worth its price.

The site specializing in performance analysis Digital Foundry shared a first opinion on the PS5 Pro on September 16. The media outlet based its analysis on the few technical demos seen in the presentation. They are structured around video games already available, which will receive an update in order to be optimized on the console. Among them, there are Hogwarts Legacywhich will apparently have a transfigured face on PS5 Pro.

On PS5 Pro, Hogwarts Legacy will be much more resplendent

On the classic PlayStation 5, Hogwarts Legacy multiplies the display options depending on the TV. There can be up to five: Fidelity, Fidelity with ray tracing, Performance, Balanced and HFR. Enough to get lost… On PlayStation 5 Pro, the experience should be simpler, with a single mode that will ensure the best possible rendering (beautiful, fluid, with ray tracing).

This is exactly what this comparison shared by Digital Foundry proves between the Fidelity mode with ray tracing on PS5 (a mode that we do not recommend) and the quality offered with the PS5 Pro:

Between the striking reflections on the ground and the precision in the small details (candles, stained glass windows, etc.), we win by playing Hogwarts Legacy on PS5 Pro.

Is the PS5 capture intentionally misleading to highlight the PS5 Pro? No, according to our own tests. We relaunched the game on PS5 with the display mode in question and obtained a similar image. Our capture is darker, because it depends on the time of day. In the morning, with more powerful lighting, the reflections are not better.

Sony is banking on a series of elements to improve rendering. There is a more powerful GPU, which will improve ray tracing performance. There is also the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, a upscaling which uses AI to work on lower definitions – less demanding – without compromising the final quality and performance. For Digital Foundry, the first impression left by the PSSR is promising.
