Windows optimization and cleaning utilities have been aplenty for many years. Sign that despite all the efforts of Microsoft, the system is not suitable for all PCs as delivered. Wintoys, developed by Bogdan Pătrăucean falls into this already well-stocked category. However, this program pulls out of the game. It first offers a graphical interface that sticks to the current aesthetics of Windows by adopting, if you wish, a dark theme but above all an operation based on tabs and tiles very legible. Then, it integrates most of the functions to give a little boost to a PC that has become a little slow by, for example, deleting unnecessary apps, optimizing disks, etc. Finally, it allows you to modify some parts of the Windows interface so that it better suits your needs. Totally free, Wintoys works on both Windows 10 and Windows 11. Its interface is in English but very easy to understand.
How to optimize Windows with Wintoys?
Wintoys divides its functions into six tabs, each grouping the options to activate or not to concoct a Windows with small onions.
► After installing and launching Wintoys, the software interface opens on the tab Home. Here stands the robot portrait of your PC with the model reference, the processor, the graphics card, the amount of random access memory (Ram), its performance score, but also the number of software installed, the number of processes and of services in progress or the occupation rates of the CPU, the GPU and the memory. In short, a complete dashboard that avoids using several utilities!
► Click on the tab apps in the left column. After a few seconds, the complete list of apps installed on the PC is displayed. You can classify them by type (Win32 Or store) or in alphabetical order. If one of them seems useless to you, click on the three points of suspension at the end of the line corresponding to his name. From the pop-up menu, choose Uninstall. Note that you can also do a Google search to check what it is by choosing Search. The option Browse will take you to the folder where the app is located.
► One click on the tab Services displays all active services. As with apps, you can disable or relaunch them if they malfunction. The pictogram I allows to obtain more details (partially translated into French) on the function of the service.
► The tab Boost brings together several options to activate or deactivate according to your needs. For example, you can set the PC’s performance mode, remove startup applications, disable Windows applications that run in the background, adjust settings for gaming, etc.
► Click on Health (health in French) to access Windows repair and maintenance functions. You can then activate fast startup, Hibernation mode, generate a report on the state of health of the PC’s battery if it is a laptop, etc. It is even possible to access the DISM, SFC and CHKDSK functions without going through the traditional command lines. Convenient. Through the option DeclutterWintoys also allows you to empty the cache memory, temporary files or Windows Store cache.
► Finally, the tab Tweaks provides access to several tools to modify certain settings such as the display of icons on the Desktop, the behavior of the Start menu, privacy settings, etc. You can even enable God Mode here to tweak even more settings.
