Next summer the big highlight in women’s football will be in Switzerland: the home European Championship. Advance sales have been going on for a month, and as many games as possible should be sold out, creating a euphoria for women’s football. Alisha Lehmann will also be in the middle of it all. The national player who is celebrating great success on social media and is therefore also promoting the home tournament next summer. No fewer than 17 million people follow her on Instagram alone.

But Alisha Lehmann is facing major criticism after her last advertising post. In it she advertises the gambling chain “Boomerang Bet”. She shows in a video how she supposedly won 78,000 pounds in a very short time. Below she writes: “You can do what I did!” Many users expressed their dissatisfaction in the comments under the video. “You’re just driving your fans into addiction,” writes one.

In fact, the gambling advertising of the offensive player, who has been playing for Juventus since this summer, is sensitive. In Switzerland, advertising is only possible for approved online casinos. However, this is not the case with Boomerang Bet. What’s more: the portal is on the blocked list of online gaming offers that are not approved in Switzerland.

Several Italian footballers were banned and fined

A footballer who promotes gambling is also extremely controversial. Especially in Italy, where Alisha Lehmann has been playing since this summer. Several Italian footballers have been banned in the past for gambling, particularly sports betting. A year ago, another betting scandal rocked Italian football. The focus was on football stars who made bets themselves.

The most famous case is that of Sandro Tonali. The Newcastle United star and Italian international was banned for ten months about a year ago because he also bet on his own team’s games. His lawyer said at the time that he was addicted to gambling. Tonali is now allowed to play again.

Nicolò Fagioli was also banned for seven months. This is a club colleague of Lehmann’s at Juventus. The Italian international is said to have gambled away more than a million euros in illegal sports betting on online platforms. Other Italian internationals such as Alessandro Florenzi and Nicolò Zaniolo were also investigated. But because they didn’t bet on football, they were only sentenced to fines.
