Around 30 army personnel fell ill with norovirus

Vomiting, fever and diarrhea: In Artillery Department 1 in Bière VD, around 30 army members were isolated from the rest of their troops. Likewise in the medical school 42 in Airolo TI. The reason for this is an outbreak of norovirus. The disease normally lasts up to 72 hours and heals without any complications in healthy young people.

“The affected army members suffer from gastrointestinal complaints. They were separated from the rest of the troops and are being cared for by medical professionals,” the federal government wrote in a statement on Friday.

Noroviruses cause gastrointestinal infections. The virus is transmitted relatively easily from person to person; there is no vaccination. This is why outbreaks continue to occur in community facilities such as barracks, homes and hospitals. Norovirus infections are most commonly seen in the winter months.

Editor’s note: An initial version of the article stated that over 70 army personnel were ill. According to the army’s statement, however, there are 30 army members.
