Cercle Brugge played with fire in their return match against Wisla Krakow. Hannes Van Der Bruggen was sharp despite the qualification
The 1-6 win in the first leg saw Miron Muslic make no less than seven substitutions in his starting line-up. Denkey, Ravych, Somers and Van Der Bruggen, among others, started on the bench. And so it became exciting in the return match after all.
Cercle lost at home 1-4 and qualified for the League Phase of the Conference League, but made it unnecessarily difficult for themselves. Hannes Van Der Bruggen was sharp after the match.
Van Der Bruggen not tender
“The feeling is mixed, I am of course happy with the qualification, but the approach today is simply not possible. We gave them hope and that was not necessary. The fact that we qualified is good, but this match has brought us back down to earth.”
“One thing you can’t do when you start a home game with a big difference is give the opponent hope. We fell short in that, especially in terms of concentration. I’m happy with the qualification, but there’s a lot of anger in my head.”
But Van der Bruggen ultimately only wanted to remember the qualification. Cercle also played with many young players who still have to get used to the system. “Let this be a lesson”, Van Der Bruggen concluded.
