A woman was found burning logs for the production and sale of charcoal near a forest in the Yaruquí sector. This activity was not authorized and was therefore sanctioned by the Metropolitan Control Agency.

Mayor Pabel Muñoz has been emphatic in stating that he has ordered an investigation to determine the causes of the fires and that those responsible be punished to the full extent of the law.

“Enough of this irresponsibility! There are people here who believe that the best way to clean up their land is to set fire to and burn the trash that is the result of that cleanup,” he said on Wednesday afternoon.

Several fires have been reported since Wednesday, August 4, and permanent monitoring has been carried out in the sectors where the fires occurred. Masks will also be delivered to the most vulnerable people, there will be monitoring and alerts in case of changes in air quality; Support for the economic recovery of those who have suffered losses in their livelihoodsIn addition, patrols will be carried out in the areas most prone to fires, messages will be disseminated to generate citizen co-responsibility and finally, constant monitoring of traffic and mobility in those sectors will be carried out.

Metropolitan COE implements seven actions in response to fire emergencies

The Mayor of Quito, Pabel Muñoz, thanked the government entities for their support and highlighted the solidarity and commitment of the citizens who were active in supporting the work carried out by the Quito Fire Department.

He also requested that any donation or help be managed from the different zonal administrationsand called on the inhabitants of the capital to be careful of people who are requesting contributions on behalf of the Municipality.

Before closing the session, the Mayor of Quito urged the National Police to patrol the areas with the highest risk of fires in the District to prevent the generation of fires caused by controlled burning or by the interference of unscrupulous people. He also asked that joint work be done with the parish GADs where these scourges occurred.
