There will probably be noise in the west of Greifswald on the night from Wednesday to Thursday. The municipal utilities are renewing a main drinking water pipeline for Greifswald.
This is where the noise comes from
This is necessary, says municipal utility spokeswoman Gudrun Oldenburg, “in order to be able to guarantee a safe, high-quality drinking water supply for Greifswald in the long term.” Specifically, work is being carried out on the main drinking water pipeline from the Hohenmühl waterworks.
Construction work will take place from 10 p.m. on Wednesday to 7 a.m. on Thursday morning near the bypass road near the outskirts of the city in the direction of Heinrich-Heine-Straße. According to the municipal utility company, the drinking water supply is guaranteed.
The water is running, but the night is likely to be restless. Reason: “However, there may be noise disturbances during the night-time work, which unfortunately cannot be avoided because it is technically necessary to carry out the work at night.”
Browning and pressure fluctuations
Even after this, you can expect some discomfort with the water. Pressure fluctuations, clouding and brown discoloration of the water can occur. However, these are only temporary and do not pose a health risk.
According to the municipal utility company, the Hohenmühl waterworks was put into operation in 2004. There are seven wells there with a depth of around 50 meters. Around 3300 cubic meters of water are usually treated in the waterworks. A maximum of 6000 cubic meters of water is possible. Around 24,000 people are supplied with water from there.
The main drinking water pipeline construction site is not the only construction site related to water. On Thursday, the city reported a water pipeline failure in the city center. As a result, cars and other vehicles can no longer drive from Domstrasse into Baderstrasse. The construction work is expected to last until Thursday evening.
