The hall was full in no time. Thousands had come to Zurich or had a look around the main station before passing through: As always at the start of Weltklasse Zürich, the main station was transformed into an airport and there was a catwalk for the best pole vaulters in the world.

And they like coming to Zurich. Olympic champion Nina Kennedy had previously said: “It’s my favorite meeting. After the Olympics we’re all a little more relaxed. The crowd is cool, the music, there’s less pressure, I really love it.” She showed just how much with her third victory in a row, the Australian was the only one to jump over 4.87 m.

The audience got really loud for the first time when Pascale Stöcklin cleared the starting height (4.37 m) effortlessly at her premiere in this location. And a second time when she said after her out (4.52 m): “Even I, as a Basel native, have to say that it’s great here. Thank you, Zurich!”

When European champion Angelica Moser then mastered 4.77 m after an almost flawless start, the hall shook. The fourth-place Olympic athlete had been ill for a week after Paris, but now she seemed to be back to full strength. However, when she then stayed at that height and came fourth again, she said: “It was extremely enjoyable, it is priceless to have such a competition on your doorstep. Unfortunately, my batteries are empty after the long season.”
