The city of Darmstadt and the police are working more closely together to increase security. The introduction of a weapons ban zone is also being considered.
The city has now signed a ten-point plan with the police to combat crime. Mayor Hanno Benz and Police Chief Björn Gutzeit stress the importance of strengthening the population’s sense of security.
Increased police presence
The plan, for example, provides for increased police presence. The plan was signed on Wednesday (4 September) and also includes measures against juvenile delinquency and for event security. According to the head of the public order department, Paul Georg Wandrey, these measures are intended to counteract the increasing crime in Darmstadt.
Together for a safe Darmstadt
The city and the police are committed to increased cooperation. Joint patrols and regular control measures are planned, in which other authorities are to be involved. The city police could introduce a 24-hour service in the future. The city police station is to be relocated to the city center.
Strengthening the feeling of security
The aim is to strengthen citizens’ sense of security through cooperation with various bodies. This also includes ongoing training of the city police on prevention topics. There should be regular exchanges between the city, police and business owners. The existing prevention council will continue to play a major role.
Control action in the city centre
Leading representatives of the city and the police showed up at a control operation in the city center to reinforce the joint security offensive. Police President Gutzeit emphasized that Darmstadt remains one of the safest cities in Hesse, but should become even safer.
