Daniil Medvedev after the easy victory against Borges in the eighths of the US Open found himself in front of Nick Kyrgios in the role of interviewer. The Australian tennis player, out of action due to injury, is doing well in this new role and has also teased the Russian about the possibility of a quarterfinal match against Jannik Sinner.

Kyrgios who has caused a lot of discussion in recent weeks with his stance towards Jannik Sinner on the Clostebol case. This time, however, the question is purely technical about the difficulties for Medvedev to find the world number one in his path: “There is a potential clash with Sinner, I have to ask you even if he has a tough match against Paul. Who would you like to face?“.

The Russian replied with great sincerity: “GI’ll watch the game even if it’ll be late and I should sleep, but let’s see. It could be a long game, Tommy has played very well this year. I’ve faced him twice and he could have won either time. It’s going to be a great match, very physical for both of us. It doesn’t matter who my next opponent is, just have fun and then we’ll see.”

The confrontation between Kyrgios and Medvedev continued with some funny moments. One of these was related to a very particular precedent between the two. It all started with his positive results in New York: “I try to work hard. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I don’t. There are days when it’s harder to get out there and practice. I have the mentality that if the other guy practices more than me, I have less of a chance of winning. And I always want to win. So I try to practice as much as I can. I’ve had a lot of success here at the US Open. The last time I lost in the fourth round… oh… it was to you, right? Good memories.”
