Hit by express train: track worker in Erlen seriously injured

On Sunday evening, a 51-year-old track worker was seriously injured by a passing Intercity train at the entrance to Erlen station. The train is said to have come to a stop a few hundred meters behind the accident site. The injured man was flown to hospital by Rega.

On Sunday evening, shortly after 10 p.m., the cantonal emergency call center received a report of an accident involving a construction train in Erlen. According to initial findings from the Thurgau cantonal police, a 51-year-old track worker who was working on a construction train was seriously injured by a passing passenger train. The cantonal police wrote this in their communiqué on Monday.

After receiving first aid from the rescue service, the track worker was flown to hospital by Rega. The exact circumstances of the accident are being investigated by the cantonal police, the statement continued. Officials from the Swiss Accident Investigation Board were also on site. (cap/mlb)
