Max Kruse particularly mourns a missed opportunity in his career. And that also has something to do with an escort lady, as intimate confessions from the 36-year-old show.

The story still haunts the former national player today. Because the 36-year-old was asked by his roommates on Celebrity Big Brother (daily from October 7th to 21st on SAT.1 and Joyn) about a career mistake that he would like to undo.
Kruse replied that he would have liked to become world champion. He could have been there in 2014, but the escort story from November 2013 put a stop to his plans.
At that time, during a poker game surrounding the DFB team’s international match against England in London, he came up with the idea of ordering an escort girl to his room.
“I have to be honest, I’ve done that a lot,” admits the 36-year-old.
Max Kruse: Usually always smart
“Usually I was always smart enough to do it in a separate room on another floor,” he said, explaining:
“In the national team it’s like this: when you’re in a hotel, you have the whole floor to yourself. And then you just take another floor. Instead of the 6th, the 2nd floor. And then she checks in and then leaves you too on the other floor.”
But on that day he was inattentive: “I didn’t pay attention and just ordered them to my room.”
A little later, the then assistant coach Hansi Flick and manager Oliver Bierhoff stood at the door and instructed Kruse to send the lady home.
Interesting detail: “But a lot of people did that. Even in the hotel and also that evening. Just on a different floor,” he said.
The next day there was a conversation with those responsible. “I found the way they talked to me sneaky. They didn’t say: ‘Max, finish this and that’s it’, but they said: ‘We are satisfied with your performance. But when that comes out, it’s a really bad picture, you can’t do that. You can decide now, either you concentrate on football or you don’t play the World Cup in the summer.’ One thing like this: If I behave correctly now, then it’s ok. That was in November and the World Cup was in the summer.”

Actually a clear statement. And yet things turned out differently. “Then they really fucked me,” as Kruse put it.
According to Kruse, two days before the official nomination of the provisional World Cup squad with 30 players, the DFB called and announced that they wanted to shoot a short portrait for the provisional squad nomination.
“Then I thought: Great. And then I’m sitting in the restaurant in the evening when my cell phone rings. Then the trainer calls me and I thought: Oh great, the lion calls me and tells me I’m there.”
But the conversation went differently than expected.
“Max, we have decided that you will not be there,” Löw explained, according to Kruse. And then he reveals how much the whole thing affected him.
“I was blown away. That’s the only time I caught myself, like I was in a trance. I was a different person. That was the craziest event in football for me. They then became world champions. “
