Jannik is rediscovering the joy of being on the court, he dominates against the Australian and closes 6-1 6-4 6-2

He runs, he varies, he commands and above all: he smiles. It is a liberated Jannik Sinner who reaches the round of 16 of the US Open by beating the number 87 in the world Chris O’Connell in three sets 6-1 6-4 6-2. On Monday he will be awaited by one between Tommy Paul and the Canadian Diallo, on the court now. Sinner is recovering after the news of the accidental positive test for doping for which he was declared innocent.

Step by step, match by match, Jannik is loosening up, he is finding his game and the certainties that led him to number 1 in the world. Yesterday’s rival, defeated in the spring in Miami, in the ride that led him to victory in the Masters 1000 in Florida, cannot be considered a very tough test, but we finally saw flashes of the old Sinner. Very solid in service, quick in movement and tactically impeccable under the satisfied eyes of Cahill and Vagnozzi.

THE MATCH

The match, which lasted an hour and 56 minutes, was certainly not spectacular, with Jannik going full steam ahead in the first set up to 5-0 and then closing 6-1 in less than half an hour with 88 percent of points with the first serve. The second set in which the Australian often has to defend himself but is more solid with his serve thanks to which he stays in the match. The break suffered in the 3rd game, however, is irrecoverable and Jannik also takes home the second set, 6-4. In the third set the number 87 in the ranking loses his serve immediately, fails to catch up with the number 1 in the world and in the 7th game suffers another break. Sinner serves for the match at 5-2 and does not take any steps back: the eighth finals are his.
