Sinner doping case: Wada is appealing

So now: The World Anti-Doping Agency Wada is taking action against Jannik Sinner. The Sesto tennis professional tested positive twice for the banned steroid drug Clostebol in April.

However, Sinner was then able to prove his innocence in court that he had unintentionally come into contact with the banned medication through his physiotherapist. As a result, Sinner’s doping case was stopped and the 23-year-old from Sesto was acquitted.

WADA now considers Sinner’s explanations to be unbelievable. She is seeking proceedings before the International Court of Arbitration for Sport and is demanding a ban.

Proceedings before the CAS

The World Anti-Doping Agency has now given itself until the last day to appeal against this acquittal. And WADA did just that shortly before the end of the submission period. A press release from Wada states: “On September 26th, Wada filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the case of Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner.”

“Wada considers the justifications of careless and blameless behavior to be incorrect and is taking action against Sinner. And that’s why WADA is calling for a ban of between one and two years.”
