In an open letter, various trade associations and residents address the mayor and the city council of Zurich.

They recall an agreement reached in October 2023 aimed at traffic regulations during the 2024 UCI Cycling and Para-Cycling World Championships and represents a compromise between the interests of businesses, residents and the city. A central element of this agreement is the “three-phase concept”, which provides for traffic to be released in certain phases.

However, the city is accused of not adhering to this agreement. In particular, the “green phase”, which was supposed to allow traffic up to one hour before the start of the race, was omitted from public communication. Instead, it was communicated that the affected areas would be closed to motorized traffic from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. This is seen as a breach of trust and a breach of the law.

The associations and residents demand an immediate correction of the communication and compliance with the agreement. They emphasize their contribution to the city’s prosperity and appeal to the reason and sense of responsibility of the city administration.
