Heavily criticized after his heavy defeat against Brandon Nakashima in the first round of the US Open, Holger Rune responded to his detractors in a message published on Twitter.
“Sometimes the obstacles on the road are painful and frustrating. But we all know that there is no easy or quick way to achieve our dreams. Every experience is a learning experience, which will make the foundations so solid that nothing and no one can break us in the end. I am not satisfied with my results, but I must not forget that I am 21 years old, in the top 15 in the world and the highest ranked man in my country. So when the media, the “experts” and the unknowns treat me like shit, I take it as a weird compliment. They expect more from me, and faster. I also like it when everything goes at the speed of an F1 towards the goal but life is not always like that. To all the young people or players who lose in sport or feel like failures, be strong, it is part of the path to success”
