All smiles, Ricardo Ten particularly appreciated his prizes.
Ricardo Ten left his mark on the Para-cycling World Championships. In Glasgow, the 48-year-old Spaniard won four medals on the Scottish track, winning the title and gold in the scratch and omnium events, silver in the pursuit and bronze in the team sprint.
In addition to this perfect collection of all metals, the Valencian veteran, like every world champion, received several gifts from the organizers during the various official ceremonies in which he took part. The prices in question? A luxury watch (by title) from the Swiss watchmaker Tissot, one of the main sponsors present at these Multi-Discipline Cycling World Championships.
The problem? Ricardo Ten had both his forearms and his left leg amputated when he was only 8 years old. The Iberian had then unfortunately come too close to a high-voltage line. Given the handicap of the quadruple medalist, the choice of gift can be perplexing. At least from the outside.
Because the main interested party, he wore a broad smile when he got on the podium to collect his medals and his presents. Even better: Ricardo Ten posted photos and videos on his various social media accounts where he proudly wears one of his watches and where he thanks the Tissot brand for “believing in a great world of inclusion”.
Doubly well equipped, will the Spaniard be able to further improve his next times?
