Max Verstappen warns fans about F1 career

Max Verstappen is starting to talk about the end of his Formula 1 career, even though he is not even 27 years old.

Max Verstappen competed in his 200th Formula 1 Grand Prix last weekend at Zandvoort, a symbolic milestone for the three-time world champion. At just 26, he becomes the youngest driver to reach this milestone.

This remarkable performance naturally raises questions about the rest of his career, but the Dutchman remains cautious about the idea of extending his adventure in F1.

At the media day, Verstappen made it clear that he did not see himself continuing to 400 races, unlike Fernando Alonso, whose longevity in F1 is legendary.

“No, I’m already past the halfway point of my career, that’s for sure.at-the having you. It doesn’t feel like we’ve done 200 races, but with so many races in a year, you quickly add them up!”

End of career planned for 2028

Verstappen has often hinted that he could leave F1 as soon as his enjoyment of it wanes. He is currently looking to 2028, the date his contract expires, as a possible end to his F1 career.

“Of course, 2028 is still far away, but for now I’m not thinking about a new contract”he said. I just want to see how it goes, see also the new rules for us, if it’s fun or not. And then even in 2026, 2027, there’s a lot of time to decide what’s going to happen.”

Plans after F1

Max Verstappen has never hidden his interest in other motor racing events, such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. However, his busy F1 does not yet allow him to devote himself to them.

“It’s difficult to combine other series with F1 at the moment,” he explained. “Once I stop F1, I would like to do something else and be more relaxed, so be more at home because when I participate in something, I want to be good and I want to win.”

In the meantime, the Dutchman is focusing on the current season, well aware of the challenges that await him. The Dutch Grand Prix, where he was undefeated since 2021, was not a new opportunity to demonstrate all his talent as the competition intensifies.

“It seems like there are a lot more teams that can actually win a race now” concludes Verstappen, who still has a comfortable 70-point lead over Lando Norris in the drivers’ championship.
