It’s a block of only three matches, and that doesn’t happen very often in a Pro D2 season. Another reason to finish it well, because the chances of making up for a misstep are less. A week after a defeat in Aix-en-Provence, short but without bonus (24-18), FC Grenoble will host Biarritz Olympique on Friday at the Stade des Alpes (kick-off delayed to 9 p.m.).
Compared to the team which started the match in Aix-en-Provence, seven days earlier, there were seven changes in the Isère starting XV. Still led by Thomas Lainault, renewed with the captain’s armband.

Rotations between starters and replacements
Left to rest for the trip to Provence, left pillar Zack Gauthier, center Romain Fusier and winger Wilfried Hulleu find a place in the red and blue XV. As did scrum half Barnabé Couilloud, who recovered from adductor discomfort and was spared a week earlier.
The other changes fall under the usual rotation. Substitutes against Aix, hooker Lilian Rossi, 2nd row Pierce Phillips and flanker Ryno Pieterse will start the game this time.
-Notably, the FCG will line up on the wings of the 3rd line two players rather stamped 2nd line: the South African Pieterse and the Portuguese José Madeira, who has become a flanker since the appointment of Patrick Pezery.
Among those who have a string of starts, it should be noted that the South African Cody Thomas will play his seventeenth match of the season against BO; which makes the right pillar the Grenoble player most regularly called up in 2024-2025. This, while the Georgian Giorgi Pertaia is treating a strained thigh.
On the substitutes’ bench, after the choice of “6/2” in Aix-en-Provence, the Pezery/Nadau duo opted again for five forwards and three backs. Mathis Sarragallet, also spared a week earlier, finds a place on the match sheet. For his part, South African pillar Johannes Jonker will be able to play a second match, after three months away from the field.
Finally, note that Romain Trouilloud, victim of a bad ankle sprain at the beginning of December in Mont-de-Marsan, joins the extended group for the meeting against the BAsques. Which augurs a future return to competition for the Isère center.
The Grenoble – Biarritz match will be followed live with commentary on www.ledauphine.com/sport, this Friday from 8:30 p.m.
