Great moment for Maarten Vandevoordt against Zeno Debast – All football

Maarten Vandevoordt started this Wednesday in the Champions League with RB Leipzig. His first European match for the German club!

The first season of Maarten Vandevoordt (22 years old) at RB Leipzig is going average for the former Genk goalkeeper. Not that he performed poorly in Germany, but a year and a half after being bought, he was probably hoping for more playing time now that he has left Limburg for good.

Loaned last season to Genk to continue his development, Vandevoordt did not arrive in Leipzig as a starter however. He is in fact number 2 this season behind the Hungarian Peter Gulacsi. His only appearances this season: two Bundesliga matches and two German Cup matches.

This Wednesday, however, Vandevoordt was finally able to make his Champions League debut. A little late, because RB Leipzig has… lost its first 6 C1 matches, and can therefore no longer qualify even for the play-offs of the competition.

Sporting Portugal’s reception was therefore anecdotal but Vandevoordt will remember it, since he was started… and Leipzig took its first points for the occasion. With Loïs Openda at the forefront, the Germans won against the club of Zeno Debast, also holding the midfield position.

RB Leipzig won 2 goals to 1, without a goal from Openda but from Sesko and Poulsen, the Portuguese goal being scored by Gyokeres. Arthur Vermeeren returned in the 85th minute for the Germans.
