It’s now official, Domenico Tedesco is no longer the coach of the Red Devils. The question everyone wants an answer to is who his successor will be.
The search continues and the federation is reportedly aiming for an appointment at the end of this month. It is becoming more and more clear that it will be a foreign coach and not a Belgian coach, as many would have liked.
Several candidates
Thierry Henry, who was Roberto Martinez’s assistant, Julen Lopetegui, formerly of Real Madrid and the Spanish national team, or Rudi Garcia have been cited as potential candidates to occupy the position.
But Mannaert would face a major problem, Garcia and Lopetegui would be on Porto’s list to become the new coach. Vitor Bruno would indeed be in the hot seat, he who succeeded Sergio Conceição, who has since found a place at AC Milan.
-A size problem
In Porto, president André Villas-Boas would have placed Garcia’s name at the top of his list. Lopetegui, Luis Castro and Tite would be alternatives in case the Frenchman decides not to accept the job.
If Porto managed to snatch Garcia or Lopetegui, it would be another hard blow for Mannaert. After all, he experienced the same thing a few weeks ago with Sergio Conceição. An agreement with the Portuguese then seemed to be taking shape, until AC Milan suddenly came looking for him.
