one (another) rookie of the week title that allows him to write history

Ivan Demidov dominates in the KHL – despite limited playing time. He’s been mostly fine for a few weeks, actually. #VisiteDeKentHughes

And now we learned, this morning, that the young Canadian prospect had once again found a way to be named rookie of the week in the Russian league. Nothing new under the sun.

In two games, he scored two goals and had two assists. He played an average of 19:59 per game.

The more Demidov gains confidence, the better things go for him. He is rewarded by his coach for his prowess and he also rewards him by giving him big hockey in return.

Imagine: Roman Rotenberg understood that even without a contract at the end of the season, Demidov can play well. Well.

But what is most notable in this whole story is that Demidov is making his sixth nomination this season as KHL rookie of the week. And this allows him to enter the KHL record book.

Basically, he joins Eeli Tolvanen as the only rookies in league history to win Rookie of the Week six times. He is therefore a big week away from taking the exclusivity of the title.

With Lane Hutson being the best rookie – in my eyes, anyway – in the NHL, it’s clear that these are two big pieces of the Canadian’s future who are good recruits in their respective leagues.

Is it possible to believe that, in the best of all worlds, the CH could have two rookies of the year in a row (Hutson 2025, Demidov 2026) in the next 18 months in the NHL? Maybe, yes.

– Indeed.

– It’s impressive, yes.

– Who will win the Super Bowl?
