Seraing challenged the Genk U23s this evening. An undecided match between two direct competitors in D1B.
After the postponement of its first match of 2025 against Lierse, Seraing started the year with this trip to the U23s of Genk, last in D1B (officially ahead of Deinze). With three more points at kick-off, the Steelworkers could achieve the right operation.
The first half, however, was to the advantage of Thomas Buffel’s Jong Genk. It ended up paying off: the young Limburgers opened the scoring five minutes from the break.
A suspenseful second half
Mbaye Leye’s reaction arrived on the hour mark, with a triple change. Three minutes later, Seraing equalized thanks to Simon Buggea, served by newcomer Maxime Allione (1-1). The Steelworkers will have stuck to the score for five minutes…the time necessary for Genk’s hopes to regain the advantage.
-But the twists and turns were not going to stop there: in the 72nd, Marvin Tzubua equalized on a service from Nils Schouterden, the third goal in eight minutes in this meeting. This time, the visitors held the score until the end.
Despite the latest attacks from Limburg, who wanted to get back to the level of their evening opponent in the standings, Seraing won a share to stay three points from last place. Mbaye Leye’s troops have fifteen points, as many as Eupen, Lokeren and the Borain Francs.
