Victory of Victory in front of a packed house

In a packed Videotron Center for the first stop of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (LPHF), the Victoire de Montréal offered a victory to a crowd committed to its cause by defeating the Ottawa Charge on Sunday.

On a one-timer in the power play, Kati Tabin settled the debate to the great delight of fans. The back took advantage of a perfect pass from Erin Ambrose to put the Victory ahead with just over six minutes remaining in the game.

After surviving a penalty kill, the Victory saw the Charge tie the game on a Zoe Boyd point shot that was deflected by Shiann Darkangelo. Officials watched the video replay which confirmed that the disc was not hit above the shoulders.

Catherine Dubois opens the brand

In a second period where there were more scoring opportunities, Victory finally opened the scoring with only 31 seconds remaining on the clock.

Jumping on the return of Jennifer Gardiner’s throw, Catherine Dubois broke the ice while the Victory was playing on the power play.

The power play, however, started very poorly. Taking advantage of a blunder by a Victoire back at the Charge blue line, Tereza Vanisov broke away in front of Ann-Renée Desbiens who resisted. The Charge got another chance to score shorthanded.

Earlier in the period, the Charge had another breakaway again shorthanded, but Rebecca Leslie’s backhand stopped on the post.

Victory also hit the rod on a strike from Gardiner shortly after.

First quiet period

There were few scoring chances in the first 20 minutes. The visitors had the best chances to score, but Desbiens resisted.
