Donatien Gomis back with EA Guingamp: “I’m very good here”

League 2 (18th day). EA Guingamp – AF, this Friday (8 p.m.)

You suffered a first injury in April then a second in September. How did you experience them?

It was long, very long. I tried to stay positive. This allowed me to observe my team and my teammates. I continued to learn, with a new coach, new staff, and therefore new things. I got through this period with the whole group, staying focused.

Was relapsing particularly difficult?

When I came back, I felt really good, ready to continue. This relapse was complicated to live with, but now it’s in the past. I don’t think about it anymore.

You returned to on Friday, after suffering a lot in the first leg. Was this match a double challenge?

It’s true that the first leg was very complicated, for me as for the whole team, even if we didn’t lose it (2-2). We looked for a little extra soul to obtain this victory (4-1). We showed a new face, by being combative, united. We proved that we can also win this way. This is not denying our game, it is knowing how to adapt.

With Sohaib Nair, we felt you were solid in the hinge. Do you like this association?

That’s my guy! But whether with him, Pierre (Lemonnier) or Matthis (Riou), we all get along very well. This is also what I like about this team, the competition is very healthy, no matter who you are associated with. We communicate a lot, we cover each other, we encourage each other.

How do you imagine this meeting against Rodez?

I resumed against them, precisely (1-2, September 13). It’s a great team which has the top scorer in Ligue 2 (Timothée Nkada, 10 goals, like Grenoblois Pape Meissa Ba). It’s going to be a good little duel!

You are at the end of your contract in June. Are you discussing an extension?

Yes, we talk quietly. We are only at the beginning. I’m very happy here, I’ve been here for three years. When we are at the end of the contract, obviously, both parties have to come to terms with it. We’ll see what happens.

Do you think you are in a club that is progressing?

Guingamp is already a stable club. Today, it is not given to everyone, you just have to look at all the (administrative) raids. The training environment is very good. It’s nice to be at a club like this.

Among players, do you have the ambition to finish in the Top 5?

We talk about it a little bit. All or most Ligue 2 teams hope to play in these play-offs. It would be a great adventure to experience.
