After a committed meeting, which saw highlights on each side, France 3 Normandie brings you the reactions of the actors after Angers’ victory over Quevilly Rouen Métropole in 16e of the Coupe de France final (3-2).

It was a frustrating match that we lost in the first minutes. They were effective. We made two mistakes and then we ran behind the result. We had chances but their goalkeeper was on fire. Angers’ third goal at the start of the second period particularly hurt us so we were always one step behind, it’s a shame.”

We knew it wasn’t going to be easy. We start the match well, which means we think we can manage, but in fact in these cup matches, we must definitely not operate like that. They have regained confidence, their goal is putting them back into it. We will mainly remember the qualification, it was the most important here and here we go to the next round. I’m also happy to have seen faces that I knew well when I was a player for US Quevilly. They warned me it was going to be hard. We also talked about the time when we eliminated Angers in 2012 in 16e Also (laughter). There you go, we managed to ward off fate.

We can have regrets, we conceded two goals in four minutes so it’s not easy. The guys still showed impressive strength of character. The quality of play was there too. If we manage to equalize before the end of the first half, the match would have been completely different. There would have been no hold-up, it was deserved. Then we take this unfortunate goal after returning from the locker room. Despite everything, the players insisted until the end to score this second goal, anecdotal but which shows that there was not much difference. It’s not a good result because we would have liked to qualify. I hope that we made the people who were present this evening want to come back and see us in the championship. We must quickly digest this disappointment.

The result is satisfactory but we didn’t do everything well. There was great opposition from QRM, it must be said and that is to be congratulated. We managed to score three goals but we didn’t control everything. We scored on high points and quickly, it was important to score at key moments of the match, it made our task a little easier. And then we have Melvin Zinga who is our number 2 goalkeeper for the season and who put in a superb performance. It gave us great satisfaction. Heading to the round of 16 now, we realize that there are quite a few Ligue 1 clubs who have fallen. It’s hard, the Coupe de France, it’s complicated. We must not be choosy, obviously we always expect better but we must be happy with this qualification.

Summary of the meeting

Until now Quevilly was the executioner of Angers in the Coupe de France, 2010, 2012, always in the round of 16, always the USQ winner. But in 2025, the curse has been lifted. Two errors, from the start of the match, which were indeed costly. Barely 1 minute 45 into the game, Esteban Lepaul opened the scoring for Angers. QRM is not there, and even concedes a penalty in stride on this hand from captain Njike. Bamba Dieng transforms it. 2-0 in 6 minutes.

It’s an electric shock, the Leopards wake up, finally. First by a header from Tshipamba saved at the last minute (23e minute). Then via the Dali-Amar metronome which reduces the gap with a nice flat foot (28e minute). The teammates of former Quevillais Pierrick Capelle are hot, very hot despite the two divisions apart.

Returning from the locker room, Angers took advantage of the Reds’ laxity on a free kick and immediately made the break (53e minute). A quarter of an hour later, another reduction in the score from Dali-Amar again… magnificent goal but refused for offside. A final goal will be scored in added time from the penalty spot. Final score 3-2 for the SCO.

The adventure therefore continues for Angers which goes in 8e final, QRM for its part will want to maintain its good series in National, starting Sunday against Villefranche. Dives Cabourg is therefore the last Norman representative in this 2024-2025 edition of the Coupe de France.
