Transfers – Raymond Rhule () forced to end his career

South African international winger Raymond Rhule (32) is preparing to hang up his boots. According to L’Équipe, the Stade Rochelais player will end his career for medical reasons.

Raymond Rhule will end his career at the end of the season, as announced by our colleagues from L’Equipe. Away from the field since last August due to a ruptured Achilles tendon, the winger had undergone surgery. Initially scheduled to last five months, his absence was ultimately prolonged. Despite all his efforts, he could not regain his level. This hard blow comes on top of numerous physical problems which have marked his last seasons, particularly with his knee.

Arriving in 2020 in , after stints in and in the South African franchises (Cheetahs and Stormers), Rhule has a good track record. He won two Champions Cups with Stade Rochelais (2022 and 2023) and scored 15 tries in the yellow and black colors.

Landmark tries in the European Cup

In 2022, he scored his team’s first try in the final against Leinster. This magnificent acceleration contributes to the first European coronation for Rochelais (21-24). A year later he remained decisive by planting two tries in the semi-final against Exeter Chiefs. His first try in this match followed an overhand kick from Antoine Hastoy. The fast South African extends to the promised land with the help of good dribbling. Then at the start of the second half, he will still be well served by his fly half. Hastoy kicks him diagonally as he runs. Raymond Rhule with all his lucidity makes a little inside hook to flatten his second try.

A fast player (flashing at 38 km/h), versatile and appreciated for his state of mind, he will undoubtedly leave a good image with his supporters.
