Alina Willi reveals herself in Zauchensee, Austrian quadruplet

The very young Alina Willli took 6th place in the first European Cup downhill in Zauchensee. At home, the Austrians were a hit.

She is only 18 years old and competing in only her fifth European Cup race, but Alina Willi fought with the best during the Zauchensee descent. The young Grisonne took 6th place in the first descent contested in the Austrian resort, significantly improving her best mark which was 17th place in Saint-Moritz a month ago for her first at this level. The skier from Vermol, bronze medalist at the Swiss Super-G Championships, is one of the surest hopes of Swiss skiing. At Zauchensee, she was the only athlete born in 2006 to place in the top 30.

At home, the Austrians largely dominated the competition by achieving a quadruple. Nadine Fest, the European Cup specialist who is struggling to make her mark in the World Cup, won the event ahead of her compatriots Carmen Speilberger, Leonie Zegg and Victoria Oliver.

In the Swiss clan, Livia Rossi (8th), Nora Guggisberg (12th) and Sina Fausch (15th) are ranked in the top 15. No Romande was entered in the competition.
