Lisa Barbelin, talks about her defective bronze medal from the 2024 Olympics on RTL

The Olympic Games have lost their luster… literally. Five months after the end of the sporting event, the medals become tarnished. More than 100 defective parts were referred by disgruntled athletes to the Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (COJOP).

La Monnaie de Paris, which managed the manufacturing of these awards, is working to resolve the problem. This defect mainly concerns the bronze medals. “It’s a little disappointment”confided archer Lisa Barbelin to RTL. She went to Paris last summer to get a good third place individually.

His bronze medal is “a little rusty, a little damaged”. “It’s as if the protective layer was gone,” said the sportswoman. “At the same time, I want to have a medal that I can show to my children and which is still as bright and beautiful to show to future generations”, continued Lisa Barbelin.

“Defective medals will be systematically replaced by the Paris Mint and engraved identically”assured the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
