Jonas Vingegaard (Visma I Lease a bike) will be at the start of the Tour de and the Vuelta 2025

Jonas Vingegaard revealed his plan. Currently undergoing training in Spain to prepare for the 2025 season, the Dane will compete in the Tour de and the Vuleta in 2025. He finished second behind Tadej Pogacar on the Grande Boucle last year before giving up participating in the Tour of Spain. The double winner of the Tour (2022 and 2023), whose 2024 season was largely disrupted by a serious fall on the Tour of the Basque Country in April, had stopped his year after his victory on the Tour of Poland in August.

Reconquering the Tour de France, from July 5 to 27, will be his main objective after being dominated by Tadej Pogacar during the last edition. “It’s the race that matters most to mehe explained Tuesday. There is something special around the Tour de France. JI’m going to aim for a third victory and above all I want to be at the start with the best preparation and the best possible shape.

Two duels with Pogacar on the grand tours?

Vingegaard was unable to prepare properly for the Grande Boucle after suffering multiple injuries during his fall during the Tour of the Basque Country. “It was much worse than most people thoughthe said. I had seven broken sides, a broken sternum. The collarbone was broken into three or four pieces. I also had a broken finger and both lungs were punctured. I spent eight days in intensive care, twelve days in total in the hospital. Coming back in time for the Tour de France was a real victory, something I am very proud of.

The Dane, who will also be at the start of -, the Tour of Catalonia and the Critérium du Dauphiné, has chosen to participate in the Tour of Spain rather than discovering the Giro this season. This will be his third participation in the Vuelta. He took second place in 2023 at the end of an edition marked by the hat-trick of Visma I Lease a bike, with the victory of Sepp Kuss and the third place of Primoz Roglic, who has since left for Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe and winner of the test last year.

Vingegaard could thus cross swords twice with Pogacar on the big tours this season. Obviously present on the next Grande Boucle, the Slovenian has not yet decided whether he will participate in the Giro, of which he is the title holder, or in the Vuelta in 2025. The Tour of Spain is still missing from his list of achievements and the The now confirmed presence of Vingegaard for the next edition could possibly tip the scales in favor of this event. “Vingo” has also not ruled out participating in the road Worlds, which could thus be the scene of another duel between the two men.

Van Aert on the Giro and the Tour

The other star of the Dutch team, the Belgian Wout Van Aert, will race the Giro and the Tour de France in addition to his two “big spring goals“, the Tour of Flanders and Paris- where he will aim for a first victory. Wout Van Aert, also seriously injured in 2024, even twice, thinks he has “recovered completely and that it will not affect me in 2025” .

In 2025, its main objective will once again be to “win the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix“. On the Giro and the Tour, he will then aim for stages, in addition to assisting his leaders for the general classification (Simon Yates on the Giro).

Overall, the Visma team is hoping for a better season than in 2024″where we had a lot of bad luck with falls and injuries“, declared Grischa Niermann, the race director. “The priority is to regain the Tour de France, he said. We have work to do to beat Pogacar. We had an excellent strategy the two years we won. We have to find a way to beat him.”
