Charlie Dalin won his first Vendée Globe on Tuesday after an exemplary journey of 64 days 19 hours 22 minutes and 49 seconds around the world. The 40-year-old Frenchman, in the lead for more than 80% of the course, beat by nine days the record established in 2016-2017 by Armel Le Cléac'h (74 days, 3 hours, 35 minutes and 46 seconds).
Skipper Macif must now wait on his boat until 2 p.m. to start taking the channel after passing the line, due to the tide. Four members of his technical team, but also his wife and his 7-year-old son, were waiting for him for his first physical contacts after two months at sea.
The enormous frustration of 2021 erased
His first pursuer, Yoann Richomme (Paprec Arkéa), with whom he has fought a fierce duel since the start on November 10, should follow in the evening. “I think he deserves it. The scenario of the last Vendée Globe was unfair to him and he deserves this victory,” declared the Varois a few days ago.
In 2021, he had already arrived first in Les Sables-d'Olonne. But Yannick Bestaven (Maître CoQ) had obtained a time bonus for having participated in the rescue operations of Kévin Escoffier. Dalin finally gave in for less than three hours. “This second place was a big frustration. For a long time I would wake up at night, redo the race, the maneuvers, the sail choices to understand where I had let this time go,” said the Norman from Le Havre before departure.

The party, in which thousands of people from all over France will take part, should last a few days, as more people arrive. Sébastien Simon, in third position, is expected between Thursday and Friday to complete the podium.
