Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix revealed Monday that he suffered transverse process fractures in his back during part of his NFL rookie season.
He said he was injured in the first half of the Nov. 24 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. The transverse process is a small bone that protrudes from either side of the vertebra.
“A lot of guys play with these kinds of injuries,” Nix put things into perspective.
The quarterback said he received treatment the following week, as the Broncos prepared to face the Cleveland Browns in a Monday night home game.
“I wasn’t going to miss my first Monday night game. I was treated and we were lucky to have a week off the following week. It calmed down afterwards. It was boring, but we all play with boring problems,” he said.
Nix, who is one of six quarterbacks selected in the 1st round in 2024, did not miss a game this season and finished with 3,755 passing yards for the Broncos and 29 touchdown passes. He helped Denver reach the playoffs for the first time since 2015.
“I think the number one quality that everyone likes about him is his toughness,” said right tackle Mike McGlinchey. “He showed it several times. It’s not just about the physical stamina, but also the mental toughness of being a rookie quarterback and being the face of our organization and all the pressure that comes with it and how it managed it. It is thanks to Bo’s tenacity that he will become what he is. It’s really impressive to see.”
The Broncos lost to the Buffalo Bills by a score of 31-7 in the first round of the playoffs.
