$280 million to renovate the FirstOntario Center in Hamilton (with the aim of attracting an NHL club?)

We’ve been hearing about the idea of seeing another NHL team settle in the Toronto area for a while.

Is the project on the table in the short term?

Not necessarily. But we could see the project return to the rumor mill soon, especially with the new renovations at the FirstOntario Center in Hamilton.

Here’s what you need to know: the renovations estimated at $280 million will be completed by next fall and the amphitheater will be able to accommodate 18,000 people for the presentation of an event.

This is where the Hamilton Bulldogs (American League) played from 1996 to 2015:

Obviously, adding another NHL club (by expansion or by the relocation of another team) there would be a bit complicated since the territory belongs to the Sabers and the Leafs.

But by having another club close to the Toronto region, it would create rivalries on the ice… And that’s what’s missing in the NHL currently.

There would be work to be done to reshape the divisions, but we have seen in the past that it can be done.

That said, we know that there are currently favorite cities for the acquisition of an NHL club and that they are all located in the United States.

Houston, Atlanta, Kansas City… We’ve heard about these names in the last year and if there is an expansion or a move, we can believe that that’s where the NHL will look first.

While we’re talking about the amphitheater, let’s also note that the Flyers are about to announce plans for the construction of a new arena in collaboration with the Philadelphia 76ers.

On the other hand, it’s normal to take the leap knowing all that… Because it cost nearly $400 million to renovate the Wells Fargo Center last summer.

Seems like wasted money…

The plan is to build a new amphitheater in South Philadelphia.

The 76ers and the Flyers will partner with Comcast for the project, and the goal would also be to see a WNBA club settle in Philly in the coming years. To be continued!

– Come on Felix!

– A page turns.

– Reminder: only three games will be presented today in the NHL.

– Happy Monday!
