The main suspect, Jordan Garnier, claims criminal irresponsibility. He will be in court on Thursday January 16. On January 14, 2022, the accused killed Amélie Calas, 21, with more than 80 stab wounds and Caroline Fouquet, 25, with around thirty stab wounds. Jordan Garnier will have to appear before the investigating chamber in Montpellier. It will be decided whether or not, the total or partial abolition of one's discernment must be retained.
“I can’t stop thinking about it”
“I can't stop thinking about it, we go to the cemetery every day, we are devastated even today, she confides Guillaume Calas, brother of the victim. I have since had a daughter, she gives me joy again, but it’s a total injustice.” The abolition of discernment? Guillaume Calas is more than skeptical: “We had known him for ten months, he was my sister's companion with whom he lived. He was very intelligent… Seeing the turn this is taking, it turns my stomach.”
“He was very intelligent”
That day, Jordan Garnier also murdered Amélie Calas' neighbor, Caroline Fouquet, “She had no connection with him, it is not known if she was walking her dog at the time, or if he called her and dragged her by force,” explains Guillaume Calas. “We spent one Christmas together, we were around him for ten months, he was extinct, my daughter was a lively person”remembers Jérôme Calas, the father of the victim, who continues: “our life is ruined, I stopped my professional activity due to health problems”. Jérôme Calas is categorical: “If the abolition of discernment is retained, it would be an injustice. he doesn't have to be able to live his life again after killing two women! My daughter was in nursing school, she was Mother Teresa, she would have saved the whole world.”
Did taking drugs play a role?
“On the day of the tragedy, I arrived in front of the house and saw a crowd of gendarmes. He (Jordan Garnier, editor's note) approached me to ask for forgiveness, out of the question of excusing him. At that moment, I didn't even know what happened! “, confides Magali Calas, mother of the victim. It's too easy to say he was crazy, he wasn't crazy but very intelligent. This case needs to be publicized so people know what he did, if he ever finds himself free. Our family is destroyed”. Did taking drugs play a role in this tragedy? “He may have taken it to give himself strength…”concludes Guillaume Calas.
