The bells will ring in Prémanon from January 17 to 19 along the Tuffes piste. To encourage the 240 best cross-country skiers on the planet in their efforts, the public will certainly be there and should give their voice. For now, the sun is shining brightly. Despite fears about snowfall due to a period of milder temperatures, “snow control” was validated to the great joy of the organizers. “With the magnificent Christmas snowfall and a lot of work from our teams, we have the “Snow Go” of the International Ski Federation”, rejoiced the organizers.

Around 12,000 spectators will be welcomed to the Jura site, thanks to the work of 300 volunteers recruited for the occasion. This is the second time that the international event has been organized in Haut-Jura.

This year, theThe France team will have 28 cross-country skiers. Not everyone will be involved in the 3.3 km long track. Some will be present as substitutes. Franche-Comté will be able to support two young local athletes from Jura, a woman and a man. Cloé Pagnier, who pocketed her place after her victory in the mass start of the FESA Cup in Germany, is a resident of Risoux Club Chaux Neuve. Rémi Bourdin is dismissed from the Frasne Drugeon club. The latter is more likely to be aligned among the starters. He is currently 46th in the general ranking. The leader is none other than the international star of the discipline Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, winner of the big globe in 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023. Last year, it was Harald Østberg Amundsen, another Norwegian, who was awarded this distinction. Among the women, the one who is at the top of the general classification is the American Jessica Diggins, winner of the big globe last season. The first Frenchwoman in the ranking, Flora Dolci is 43rd.

Will France be able to do well during the Jura events? It is possible, since the most powerful nation in the discipline will not field its athletes in all events. As the Norwegian cross-country ski championships are organized on the same weekend as the Redhead World Cup, the Norwegians should avoid the Franche-Comté stage somewhat. “It’s a day of celebration for Norwegian cross-country skiing, and everyone should be there”said Eirk Myhr Nossum, the coach of the men’s team, to 2. Will Johannes Klaebo and Simen Hegstad Krueger be lined up this weekend? The suspense remains.

For its part, the Italian team announced its wish not to make the trip, as reported by Nordic Magazine. The impasse was made for “prepare as best as possible for the World Cup stage in Cogne (Italy) then the Worlds in Trondheim (Norway).”

In any case, the Jura stage will serve as good training before the Nordic Ski World Championships in Trondheim, Norway. They will take place from February 26 to March 9, 2025.
