Tsitsipas falls from a height, stunned from the start by the young American Michelsen

Finalist in Melbourne in 2023, the Greek was eliminated this Monday in the first round of the Australian Open by Alex Michelsen.

After a disappointing 2024 season, Stefanos Tsitsipas, finalist of the 2023 Australian Open, was beaten this Monday in Melbourne 7-5, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 by the American Alex Michelsen (20 years old; 42^e global). Tsitsipas had not lost so early at the Australian Open since 2018, when Canadian Denis Shapovalov eliminated him as soon as he entered the fray.

Promising member of the new generation, Alex Michelsen will play in the 2nd round against the Australian James McCabe (258th), recipient of an invitation, or the Spaniard Martin Landaluce (142nd), from the qualifications.
