Vertonghen is aware that the team has already been heavily impacted by injuries this season. “Ashimeru, myself, Hazard who has only just regained his form. Stroeykens is injured, although he was, with Coosemans, one of the most influential players for us. But I think we will be sufficiently armed for the title fight at the end of the transfer window, provided we get all these players back,” he said.
Before the start of the season, it was estimated that this squad should at least finish in the top 3. The possibility of winning a trophy depends on the details, like last year when, in the home straight, Anderlecht had to do without by Vertonghen, Hazard and Delaney. The team was unable to compensate for these absences. Today, the midfield and the attack offer more depth, but there is still a lack of reinforcement in defense.

“I expected us to be in the top 5. In the Europa League we are exceeding expectations. But our level in recent weeks is below what we have the right to expect,” continued the defender.
“I think our main goal now has to be to win a trophy. And it’s possible, because we are still competing in three competitions. In the Cup semi-final, I would say our chances against Antwerp are 50-50,” he added.
The RSCA is preparing to experience a very intense week. Club Brugge and Royal Antwerp FC are traveling to Lotto Park, both for the competition and the Cup. Anderlecht will have to rise to the occasion, but the infirmary remains full. Augustinsson and N’Diaye risk withdrawing, while Vertonghen, Stroeykens and, to a lesser extent, Ashimeru are still absent.
