Surprise ahead of Charleroi-Union: Loïc Lapoussin, who seemed to be back in Sébastien Pocognoli’s good graces, was still left out of the group. The Unionist coach explained this decision.
Clearly, the “case” Loïc Lapoussin remains thorny at the Union Saint-Gilloise. Absent throughout the start of the season, until the beginning of November, the Malagasy winger made his return to the group and even had a few good matches… before a new behavioral lapse in December earned him a new suspension.
Lapoussin then made his return this Thursday in the Belgian Cup against Antwerp, confirming what Pocognoli said: this time, he would no longer be sent to core B. But when we finally thought he was back for good, surprise in Charleroi: once again, no Loïc Lapoussin.
“I concentrate on the players who are focused on Union Saint-Gilloise today. I need cohesion, and a player who wants to leave, like Loïc, like Lazare, does not have the same concentration,” explains Sébastien Pocognoli this Saturday, firmly. “The group has expanded with the returns of Rodriguez and MacAllister. It makes more sense to reinstate them.”
Loïc Lapoussin, however, is not definitively sidelined… but a departure during this transfer window is probable and perhaps even desirable. Otherwise? “I told him the same thing as Lazare: train well, and we’ll see after the transfer window. We know that these are players who have wanted a departure for 3-4 years now,” underlines Pocognoli.
“I know they are at my disposal. They have their qualities and I like them a lot, but I want to remain logical. It’s more coherent to play Aït El-Hadj, Castro-Montes, Khalaili, Niang at the moment After the transfer window, it will be different, because we will then know that Loïc will be with us for many weeks,” concludes the USG coach. “Of course in that case, I could still call on them.”
