A former favorite of Sclessin remembers his forced arrival at Standard: “When I see that I have 17 missed calls…” – All football

The transfer period sometimes gives rise to astonishing scenes. Mathieu Dossevi recounts the one that led to his arrival at Standard.

In , Ligue 1 remains shocked by the non-transfer of Lopez to . While the goalkeeper had already posed for what he thought were his new colors, the operation collapsed at the last moment in fairly surreal conditions.

The Team therefore invited its consultants to share some juicy anecdotes from their careers regarding the transfer window. That of Mathieu Dossevi concerns his arrival at Standard. The former Franco-Togolese winger was loaned by Olympiakos in the summer of 2015, before being permanently purchased by Rouches.

Except that his arrival was not at all on the program. Dossevi learned of the situation when he got off a plane to join the national team. “When I turned my phone back on, I saw that I had 17 missed calls from my agent. I called him back and he told me that I had to leave because the club didn’t want me to stay,” he remembers.

Evil for good

This is not to the player’s taste: “I then tell him that I am going to stay because I tell myself that I am going to fight and that they will need me at some point. My agent calls the club back who tells him that I will be in the cellar if I stay in Greece, when you are in this kind of situation, you must no longer have contact with your teammates.

Mathieu Dossevi must have made up his mind: “I then agreed to leave and my agent activated his networks. So I signed with Standard and it was one of my best experiences. In the end, it was a blessing in disguise.” Three years and 65 matches for Rouches later, Dossevi has not regretted his time at Sclessin.
